Home Health Care in the age of COVID

Home Health Care in the age of COVID

COVID-19 has changed the way we approach life in many ways, but it’s had a significant impact on health care – especially home health care in San Antonio and the surrounding area. For a brief time, there was an increase of COVID cases reported in the San Antonio and surrounding area. As a result, Comprehensive Home Health & Hospice instated certain processes to help ensure our patient and their families had the peace of mind knowing protocols were in place to help significantly reduce the risk of infection.

COVID had a profound impact on everyone's lives. Comprehensive Home Health & Hospice continues to provide the tools and resources needed to provide peace of mind to our clients and their families.

Perhaps most significantly, virtual visits became the norm. Through the use of telemedicine technology, we greatly reduced the amount of in-person contact our care givers had with patients, while still ensuring we were providing personalized, “face to face” care. Through platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and even FaceTime the team members at Comprehensive Home Health & Hospice were able to effectively care for patients, ensure a personal connection with each one, as well as reduce exposure risk for the patient, the patient’s family, the care provider, and the community at large.

To help ensure each of our clients are protected against COVID-19, we provide each new patient with a COVID care package. Each of these care packages includes:

  • Fingertip Pulse Oximeter
  • Latex Gloves
  • Digital Thermometer
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Face Masks
  • Stethoscope, and more.

Another way we strive to ensure our clients are on the road to recovery in spite of the challenges presented by COVID, is the advanced wound care technology we utilize. Comprehensive Home Health & Hospice recently partnered with Tissue Analytics , allowing us to monitor and track the progress of a patient’s wound through the use of a smartphone or tablet. With Tissue Analytics Wound Management Platform, a caregiver simply snaps a picture with a device running the application, and a comprehensive amount of data is relayed back to a nurse. The nurse then analyzes data that includes wound dimensions, surface area, tissue composition and more. This allows Comprehensive Home Health & Hospice to clearly understand the progress of a wound, as well as any potential issues, and communicate that data to the patient’s doctor as needed. This is just one of the tools we utilize to help ensure rapid healing and a quick recovery overall for the client. You can learn more about this technology on our Wound Care page.

These are just a few of the ways Comprehensive Home Health & Hospice is working to take care of our patients across San Antonio and the Bear County area, in this especially challenging times. We are constantly working to keep our clients, our care givers, and our community safe.
